Question Lockup T/C Operation

I'm trying to figure out what's wrong with my torque converter operation. It appears that over 40 mph, my torque converter locks up within 1 second of upshifting, or downshifting if the throttle is over half way depressed. Is this functioning correctly? Also, at a steady cruising speed (over 45), if I touch the brake pedal, the T/C unlocks for only 1 second. Shouldn't it stay unlocked until the brake is released (like GMs)? I hate to bring it to the dealer, only to find out it's normal. My local dealer doesn't know $#!t and can't be trusted. TIA. Dave C.

Having the TC lockup early after the shift is preferred to get better mileage. The TC unlock with braking is to not have the extra torque going to the wheels. If you stay in the brake it should stay unlocked. This sounds like normal operation, but you could also check www.alldata.com for TSBs regarding it.

birdman, you're right. I had a ford tech hook the computer up. We took it for a ride. I was very impressed with the test programs the unit offered. It tested fine. He was telling me the throttle position, speed, rpms, what gear I was in and torque converter engagement points. He did say Ford wants the t/c engaged as much as possible to reduce temperature and increase fuel mileage. I still have 2 concerns about the t/c that I forgot to ask him about. 1) t/c does not STAY disengaged when the brake pedal is depressed. 2) When floored, t/c locks up mid way through 2nd gear (~3500 rpms). Is this correct for my EOD4?

That is the correct operation for your E4OD.
