Ford to partner with GM

I saw this report on Fox News today that stated Ford and GM were teaming up to build a new 6 speed automatic transmission and the deal should be completed in November '02. What do you think about that???

it's about time.
I was wondering when they will come up with a 6 speed transmission.
apparently it's too expensive of a R&D so they have to join resources to get it done faster.

A six speed tranny would be nice , but the thought of having chevy parts in my F-1fiddy makes me a bit sick .

It's kinda like Darth Vader (GM) comming around to the light side of the force.

But seriously folks its a little dissapointing. I come from a GM employeed family and have owned many GM vehicles. I cannot think of 1 that did not have significant problems prior to 60,000 miles. This is my first Ford and my problems have been very minor by my standards. It's never left me stranded, which GM did. Never blown a computer, twice on GM and, never blown power steering seals, never failed the cats and plugged the exhaust, never blown shocks at 30,000mi. Never had a service manager tell me that the reason my OEM Uniroyal tires are out of round is because GM puts the cheapest tires they can find on it. I won't bore you further, but I could go on and on.

Tiger that sounds like my experience with GM cars

Blown ignition module. Blown computer. Plugged Cats. My Buick Century AOD has been rebuilt 4 times. Rack-n-pinions going out and power steering leaks. Timing chain went out on an iron duke, etc.

they are most likely talking about Getrag which is owned by GM and they make 6 speed autos and 6 speed manuals for vettes, bmw's etc.

again the company is Getrag it is just owned by GM so it is not truly a GM product so don't worry!
