New valve body or shift kit?

I was thinking about a Transgo shift kit for my 2002 5.4 but then saw a new valve body for just a $100.00 or so more than the shift kit. Anyone here install a valve body and how does it compare? Thanks

I have never installed an aftermarket valve body, however in essence whether you are installing a shift kit or the valve body you accomplish the same thing. I'm sure those who market the valve bodies have their own little secrets that they put in the valve body. I'm equally sure that argument can be made depending on whose shift kit you install also. If you're putting in valve body yourself my feeling is that you are up to the task of putting the shift kit in. This would likely save you some $$$'s over having someone else install the valve body. Just my 2 cents.

I like the idea of the valve body replacement becuase it's easily reversible. If something goes wrong or you want to sell the truck, you can simply remove it.

I checked with Perfromance Automatic. They said their valve body is a simple replacement; That your remove the stock VB and install theirs. I think you do need to transfer the Shift and TCC solenoids though.
