Superior Shift kits
Superior Shift kits
I was reading the thread below about superior shift kits and did some research. From what I've seen from the site, their kit replaces the most parts and seems more complete than say the level 10 kit for the 4r70w( 4 springs ),I have yet to see the Trans go kit.
I wish someone did an install using this kit to get some feedback but no one seems to have one.By looking at the kit it seems this is because they are just not popular as opposed to being garbage
Take a look at the web site http://www.fairbanksperformance.com/...ce/aode_ta.htm
Click on the picture to see the actual kit,and for those wondering,Fairbanks is a division of superior.

We were having trouble with the Transgo and even after talking to Transgo on the phone still had some problems. We called another tranny shop and they had a similar problem with the Transgo in the same transmission and had to replace the Forward Clutch Rings or something. These parts come in the Transgo kit but we didn't have the tranny dropped so we didn't put them in.
Long story short, my tranny mechanic said he has experienced real good results from the Superior kit. He put that kit in for me and it shifts great. Not to mention that it is about half the price of the Transgo. I'm not knocking the Transgo, I know they are great kits, but we just couldn't get it to work in my application. Not only did the mechanic pay for the new shift kit, but he didn't make me pay any additional labor for dropping the valve body so many times.

I've put lots of Transgo kits in over the years and have been very happy with them. One time while working on a C-6 I couldn't find a Transgo kit available locally. I came across the Fairbanks kit and put it in. I remember at the time thinking that all in all it was a better kit than the Transgo. It came with a seperator plate that was predrilled rather than do it yourself. It also was more complete in components replaced. I'm not sure why but I haven't used one since. Probably just habit. I wouldn't hesitate to put either a Transgo or Fairbanks kit in.

TransGo, once again I wasn't thinking about Fairbanks when I put it in. If I would have I would have likely went that way. Transgo works great though. I had the SuperChip but still felt I needed the mechanical kit. I'm having the chip reburned for additional mods and will likely have some of the line preasure taken out of the 1-2 shifts when I do this.

GearHead_1,
THe kit by looking at it comes w/ more aftermarket replacements, but I'm wondering if some of those parts are able to be removed without dropping the tranny,(etc.overdrive servo piston,2-3 accumulator piston, snap ring off the intermediate sprag retainer)..I ordered an aode manual from level10 and ordered literature from Fairbanks to see if all parts can be installed w/o dropping the tranny..
.....because the day I drop my tranny is the day a level10 goes in
Thnx

Most shift kits come with parts that can be added during a rebuild (Transgo does this too). These parts aren't required to install a shift kit but are the added bonus you get should you be rebuilding.
