Outside Temperature Gauge used for Measuring Transmission Temperature

Outside Temperature Gauge used for Measuring Transmission Temperature
I had a brain-fart today:
What if, instead of measuring the outside temperature (for which I could barely care less), that temperature probe is re-routed to the transmission (for which I DO care)?
Can anyone think of any reasons why this would NOT work?

Transmission fluid temperatures routinely go well above 200 degrees, that is not going to work, at least, not for long if at all. It is not designed to be submerged into 200-300 degree automatic transmission fluid. And sitting in traffic in the summer for 10 minutes is enough to spike that tranny fluid to well over 280 degrees, even if it was only 200 degrees when you came to a stop. Without constant airflow, it heats up *very* quickly.
If you do install a trans fluid temp gauge, make sure to locate the probe itself right as the fluid exits the transmission, *before* it hits the cooler, so you'll know what the actual temp of the fluid is inside the transmission.
Good luck!
