Post Just installed Amsoil synthetic in tranny and transfer case, 97 manual

97 F150 with the manual 5sp and 2sp transfer case. What a difference! The fluid was a few miles overdue, but it seemed to free about 10hp at the rear wheels.

I would recommend running synthetic if you are changing fluids. It does make a difference.

Did you replace with ATF? I know that is what calls for in the manuel transmission. Just wondering.

Also what did you use in the transfer case?

I am getting ready to change over my differentials and the transfer case.

I just used the Amsoil Synthetic ATF fluid. It is mercon rated.

I dont have an owners manual, but the Haynes manual states for fluids:

Transfer case: mercon automatic transmission fluid

Manual tranny: mercon automatic transmission fluid

Auto tranny:

1997- mercon automatic transmission fluid
1998+-mercon 5

msparks, with Amsoil 2000 series gear oil do you need to add friction modifier for a limited slip differential?
