1993 E4OD shudder question

My 1993 E4OD has a pretty severe shudder in 3rd gear and overdrive below approx 2000 rpm. I did a filter fluid change including T/Q, and the shudder was gone. It drove like new.

Unfortunately the shudder returned after about 2000 miles. Just as bad as before.

Question; Does anyone know which component in this tranny causes this shudder problem ?
T/Q, solenoid pack, etc etc ????

I would love to take care of this shudder but at this time cannot afford a complete rebuild. I am hoping someone knows what is the cause and I can maybe just replace the problem part.

Any help and/or info is appreciated.

The shudder is usually caused by a damaged torque converter clutch.

trans shudder

I would suggest you get your vehicle into a shop for repair as soon as you can . I have seen that problem with the E40D when they were new as in a couple of days . My daughter bought a new Grand Marguise on friday and I took it to the dealer the next monday . As usual the t. c. was out and the trans was full of metal . It was warranty of course but it died again at 68,000 . She got rid of it that time . ceddie15

You do know that the Grand Marquis uses the 4R70W, not the E4OD?
