Autozone has AAMCO brand (but its made by Exxon, says right on the bottle and cases, otherwise I wouldn't!). I have it in a 4WD E4OD behind a 351.

Granpa,

Don't use Mercon V in an E4OD or 4R100! Ford says not to, and they know that transmission. The E4OD and 4R100 can only use Mercon, not Mercon V.

Mark, where did you get this information from? I have put 14,000 miles on Mercon V in my 97 e40d. I did notice it didn't shift as smooth as the Mercon. The top mechanic at a local dealership told me that Mercon V is better for it. I to have the AAMCO Mercon V.

I got my information from a Ford TSB, 98-8-8. It says not to use Mercon V in the E4OD or the 4R100. It is good to use in the 4R70W.

From other contacts I have, I have been told that Mercon V has caused high wear in E4OD and 4R100 transmissions. You won't see a problem in 14,000 miles, but I'll bet you will wear it out sooner than if you used the correct fluid.
