To Eveolve or Stgnate?
Hey Ya'll
I am up against 40k tranny fluid change. I have a FOU1 tranny. Should I go for a complete fluid change with filter (120.00) or a pan drop fluid change only? I do a lot of towing and the temps down here in Texas are extreem. Also what would be the best fluid?

Do a *complete* fluid change, whatever you do. Changing only the fluid in the pan leaves almost all the fluid still in the transmission, as they take anywhere from 13-16 quarts of fluid for a complete fill! My own 4R70W automatic takes 19 quarts, as I have a little bit larger pan and a custom billet cooler on it as well.
I know it's expensive, but it's one of the best things you can do to extend the life of your automatic transmission.
By the way, FOU1 is your computer code, and has almost nothing to do with your transmission, except that if it were a manual you'd have a different code than FOU1, just so you'll know.
FOU1 is a 1998 F-150 4.6 automatic, and they use the 4R70W automatic transmission for that application.
