Question No REVERSE when engine is hot

1993 w/auto: After truck warms up it will not move in reverse. When truck is 1st started it will go in reverse. All forward gears work fine.

Also, since this no reverse problem started the fluid level on the dipstick is normal. Any ideas, help?

Not the original trannie, not sure when it was replaced/rebuilt.

Sounds like some valve body problems to me. Exactly how long does it take for it to go from working to now working? Have you tried starting it, immediately putting it in reverse and holding, and allowing it to warm to the point that it usually doesn't work? Does it work then?

just an idea: disconnect external shifter linkage, carefully engage trans by hand without shifter hooked up (eliminating shifter or linkage as the problem). If it still occurs, JZ is correct. Internal problem such as valve body, etc. If your not familiar with diagnosing and rebuilding transmissions, then you need a pro or a new trans if you want reverse.
