Unhappy sick tranny?

i've got this horrible whine that sounds like it's coming from the tranny around at 3000 rpm. only happens if i'm in motion and and normal accelleration speed. never hear it while racing...
when i was installing my intake system, i drove to to store once with one of the barrells on the throttle body covered up (yikes!) but i didn't get the noise. once the second intake tube was on, the noise came back. any one got suggestions????????

Cool

mysteryf:

I see you have a '88 truck. Check the U-joints to be sure they are OK. A bad u-joint will resonate through the drivetrain and can mimick a "sick tranny" sound. This happened with my old '85 F150 standard tranny.
