I think that $80 is a small price to pay compared to the price of a tranny rebuild these days.
Synthetic transmission is so much superior to conventional that it will pay for itself in the long run.
Weather you use Mobil ATF, Redline ATF, or Amsoil ATF. They all will help reduce the temps in your trans, and will hold up much longer than conventional.
As a matter of fact Amsoil advertises 3 times what the manufacture recommend and longer if analysis is used.
So if you can go 3 time longer at only 2 times the price you see you will save money besides the other benifits.

knt,
I just priced the same service here in So. CA area. Tustin Trans, he wanted $49 for new filter and labor, drain TC and pan. This does NOT include fluid. He would put in anything I wanted to bring in. I priced synthetic, sticker shock, avg $5 quart and 16 quarts are needed $80!!. I will be having the service but not synthetic. I may get brave and do it, shouldn't be that bad. Passed Backyard Mechanic 101, haha.
