Post anyone else got THIS problem???

auto 4.6 extended cab 99. this transmission downshifts ALL the time! if i am cruising at 65 and set the cruise, it instantly downshifts into 3rd gear for about 1 second, then back to overdrive. If I am rolling downhill at 60 to 70 mph and push the gas down to maintain speed at the bottom of the hill, it downshifts again, even though there is no freakin load on the engine and I am allready going 70!!! Sometimes it just kind of slides between gears. dealer states it is functioning normally. anyone had experience with this? how did you convince the dealer this is not how it should operate? I mean, you have to drive the truck for awhile to pick up on this problem. HELP!!!

Do you live high in elevation? If so maybe it is just from power loss. If not, I would think about using another dealer. In any case when you turn on the cruise it should not down shift, that's just plain weird.

Mine does that also, I was told it was the torque converter unlocking and locking again. I think it's **** poor programming in the computer by Ford. I was wondering if a Superchip would maintain TC lockup in this situation. Any Superchip owners care to respond?

Hobbit (wishin' he could justify the purchase of a Superchip but just can't afford it right now.)

I'll respond to your question...with a question!

What rear-end gears and tire size do you have? I've got 31" tires and a 3.55 rear end, and the gearing is a little tall - it up-and-down shifts between 35 and 40, making city driving a big pain in the butt! I'll probably switch to a 4.10 rear end soon.
