Correct fluid

I am 99% sure I bought the correct fluid...it is the 1% that bothers me. So I figure that I will swallow my pride and ask...as opposed to damaging a good tranny

I got a quart of Mobil1 ATF fluid. On the back it says "Meets Ford mercron specs for use in 98 and later fords where type CJ or H is required. Also recommended for all cars and trucks specifiying Mercron".

Ok. The dipstick says to use Mercron V. No mention of Mercron V on the bottle.....

Thoughts....

It is not the correct fluid, it must state Mercon V.

Absolutely right, Mobil 1 is Mercon compatible but not Mercon V.

Sorry to deliver the bad news but at least you found out before you poured it into the trans.

Good luck

Is there a Dexron equivalent to Mercon V. Like, is Dexron III compatible with Mercon V?

THanks.

Good thing I asked!

I will take it back and look harder. I didn't see anything that said mercron V on the shelf. Since what I bought is synthetic tranny fluid, and I believe that mercron V is synthetic too, I thought I had a match.

Thanks everyone!

Cool

HI!... Get yourself some REDLINE D4 synthetic tranny fluid. It is compatible with our transmissions. I've been running it in my tranny for 3 years now with NO problems.
