Post What tranny do I have?

I have a '97 F-150 4x4, 4.6L, automatic. I was under the impression that there were 2 different automatics. Can you tell me what the 2 are, and any identifying characteristics of each?

The 5.4 for 97 has the E4OD.

yes........look on your door Jam for the lable that has the vin # (driver side) if it has a "u" under the TR column it is a 4R70W if it is an "E" it is the E40D.
