Angry M5OD Transmission 3rd gear grinding

I bought an 1999 F-150 with 4.2L engine 5-speed manual transmission 3 months ago, but now the tanny's 3rd gear syncronizer is grinding with the cluch fully depress. It only happens when I upshift from second to third. Has anyone has or had this problem?

I also have a F150 with the v6 and manual.
Bought it used in 97(97 model) with 25k on it. Now has 67k and is in the shop having the clutch replaced, 2nd gear replaced and synchros for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th replaced.
It has had problems since I bought it but could never get a dealer to admit it untill now. My problems were similar, it would grind upshifting from 1st to 2nd if the rpms were any higher than normal and would randomly grind downshifting from 4th to 3rd.
Thank God for the extended warranty! Repair will cost them $1200.00 but will still cost me a $50.00 deduct and around $320.00 for clutch replacement, flywheel resurfacing, new clutchplate, throwout bearing and clutch disc. (please forgive my knowledge of technical talk regarding the specifics)
Other than this only problems were bad wiper switch, and an antfreeze leak that cost the warranty company another $1300.00. I hope you have better luck with your truck. Kinda wish I still had my 88 with the 300 and manual. 160k and no problems.

I have the same problem with my 5 speed on the upshift from 2nd to 3rd. I changed the fluid to Redline MTL and it helped. Only does it sometimes now.

My advice is to take it in and have them fix it. I just picked up my truck and the trans was a $1100.00 repair. 2nd gear and 1-2,3-4 synchros were replaced. You sure dont want to be stuck with a trans that needs to be rebuilt after the warranty runs up.

I have the 5od too and I get peroidic griding. I only have 19,000 on it. I am thinking of taking it in. It seems like it is the roughest transmission to shift. I heard its supposed to be the same tranny as in the Ranger, well my ranger was never that rough and it is almost as smooths as a cars tranny. So what gives??
