Question 2000 4R70W Exchange Program

I was checking out the underside of my new 2000..and I found a green sticker affixed to the transmission:

2000 4R70W Exchange program PRIOR TO REPAIR see TSB 99-14 Please call 1-800-551-0692
VOID AFTER AUGUST 31,2000

My 98 had a similar Orange sticker with different dates..what is this all about?

I tried to do a search here to find the link for F-150 TSBs...no luck. Anyone have an idea on this/or the link for the TSBs?

I have noticed quite a few minor changes underneath from my 98. Especially that they used a plastic type of undercoating instead of the sticky tar based undercoat..much nicer!

Thanks for any info!

Dustoff -- The green tag is referring to TSB Article # 99-14-12 issued 7/12/99. Since you have an early build 2000 model, engineering is likely monitoring any failures of new or modified components within the 4R70W. This TSB article applies to all 2000 models with the 4R70W (F150, Expedition, Explorer/Mountaineer, Econoline, Mustang, Crown Victoria/Grand Marquis and Town Car).

I was specifically told by my dealer that only one transmission was available with the my 4x4 and the 5.4 liter engine. After reading some posts here I called Ford and asked, they too said only one transmission was available, the E4OD. What is a 4R70W? Have I just been given an inferior transmission to the E4OD, when they told me I was buying the E4OD?

SDDL-UP well unless things have changed (again) the '00 F150 5.4 comes with the 4R70W UNLESS you're in California then you get the 4R100 which is the updated version of the E40D. It was this way in 99 anyway.......If you want I'll check at work tomarrow.

Thanks mlaugh! I just want to know what's going on, and I'll probably have to wait until I pick up the truck, hopefully Friday. I posted again in E4OD -vs- 4R70W -vs- 4R100, I wish someone could give me some answers.

Thanks again mlaugh!

Red face

I picked up my truck today (finally!), I have the 4R704 (an evolution of the AODE?). My build date is 9/99, and I also have the "exchange program" sticker....WOW! I find it hard to believe that Ford is letting things go out the door that they fully expect to have fail! Has there been anything else learned about the "exchange program"

I've got a 4R70W and a sticker too. I also have a 'funny noise', there is an occaisional 'clunk' when I shift from Park to Reverse after the truck has been sitting a while. It doesn't happen every time though. It sounds just like a bad or loose u-joint would sound, but since my truck has 175 miles on it, it can't be that. Hopefully this is something simple, but knowing that Ford wants to keep a close eye on these trannys makes me think. Anybody have any ideas? Thanks!

My 99 had the sticker and sure enough it started leaking at 3,500 miles.
They had to replace the pump assy and the seals. (warranty)

My 2000 made the 1st week of October at the Ontario plant has the same green sticker as Dustoff's.

Hey what's with this cabin filtration everyone is listing on their signature lately? Does my 2000 have it?

SPORT2000,
Sorry to say, but no, your F-150 does not have it unless you arranged to have your dealer install it. It is a DIO (dealer installed option) for the 97-00 F-150. It is more common in the Expedition and the Navigator.

The filtration system is not difficult to install on your own. My salesperson forgot to order it...so I arranged to have the parts kit sent to me when it arrived. Simple installation instructions. Minor cutting involved. Cost is around $60.00 for the entire kit.

So far, it seems to work great.

If anyone is interested, I can scan in the 4 page (12 step) installation instructions (as .jpg files) and send them to your e-mail. This will give you a better idea of what this is.

Dustoff –

I'd be interested in seeing those install instructions. This site is the first time I've heard of the cabin filtration system, I'm surprised my dealer didn't try to sell me on that too, he tried his best to sell me everything else!

So back to the original question:

Are we holders of the Green Stickers heading for smiles or frowns?

Surely there's a mole in the Ford organization monitoring these posts -- care to post the real scoop for us???
