Red face E40D Leak

okay...my first time to post here, but i've been reading for quite sometime, so here goes:

changed the transmission fluid a couple of weeks ago, dropped the pan, drained the TC, replaced the filter, put it all back together, put in a B&M drain kit to make it a less messy job next time and poured in $100 worth of mobil 1 ATF. on the test drive i was immediately stunned that a fluid change could make this much difference. shifts are much smarter and smoother. before on shifts under hard hard acceleration i sometimes thought i was going to loose the rear end...especially if i backed off just before it was about to shift...after the fluid change shifting is flawless.

now the problem...it leaks fluid, after 500 miles or so, it is still leaking out of the black grommet at the bottom of the bell housing. just enough to be aggravating, not enough to stain the garage floor (yet). my obvious first though was the TC drain plug that i had removed and replaced...no go, the plug is dry as can be, as a matter of fact the TC itself is dry...no evidence it is spinning fluid.

now the question...has anyone experienced this? any ideas where it is coming from? how did a simple fluid change cause it to start leaking. what is the fix...i hate the thought of dropping the transmission over a small leak, but the annoyance continues to build.

Is there any chance you may have overfilled the transmission? Good luck trying to stop the leak.

thanks for the reply dirt bike...unfortunately it is not overfilled, it is right in the middle of the slash marks, i put in EXACTLY what came out...14.5 qts out, 14.5 qts in. owners manual says 16.4 qt capacity, so a couple of quarts in the cooler/lines seems reasonable to me.

Is it possible that during the refilling you spilled a little onto something and it is slowly dripping off? If the fluid on the dip stick mark ain't movin..... Maybe? If so it should clear up eventually huh?
