Maybe a solution to the driveline clunk?
I noticed a few on this board that was complaining of a clunking noise when you pull out? Well i just thougt i would pass this bit of advice along that was told to me by a few honest chevy truck guys. i know its a (RARE BREED) of chevy guys that actually admit that they have problems too! but a lot of chevy trucks has this annoying clunk also! some of you on here said that by removing the driveline and putting grease in the end of the slip yoke would quieten it but after a few weeks or so it would start clunking again and was a temporary fix? well the chevy guys said that what was going on is? the grease in there would cushion it for a while but after it slammed a few times the grease would work its way down through the little splines on the output shaft after a while and there wouldnt be nothing to cushion it no more. then when you accelarated the rear end twists to one side a little bit (exspecialy on limited slip were one wheel is actually moving the vehicle) just enough to slam the slip yoke in to the rear of the output shaft spline that comes out of the center of the tranny or transfer case this is what causes the clunk! (now the solution or so i am told) they said to go get you a jack game at the store (you know the kids game were you bounce a rubber ball and see how many jacks you can pick up) take the rubber ball and remove the driveline and push the rubber ball all the way back into the hole in the slip yoke on the end of your driveline. now reinstall driveline he said that the ball acts as a cushion and completly eliminates the clunk and lasts for about 25.000 miles for you should have to replace it again. but he said to be sure and use the rubber ball from a jack game. cause they are made from a spongy type rubber and most of the other rubber ***** he had seen was harder and would split. now i just thought i would pass this info on i have never tried and i am just going by what someone else told me! mine isnt clunking on take off. but if it starts i am sure going to give it a try. if anyone trys it let me know how it does? it sounds like a good solution and really makes sense.
