i have a 97 4.6 auto, and a month ago my trannsmision went out (80k miles) and for about 3 months preceding this i had a first gear wine, the guy at the tranny shop said it is a good indication that the planitary assy. is going out, and when it does its not fun. i got a good rebuild, with a level 2 shift kit, and a high po tq converter for 2500$ you can get them cheaper, but i wanted thios one to last,,,,,might not be ur prob. though...have it checked out, good luck

My truck only has 32K on it, so as long as it wasnt' originally sold in Nov. '96, it's still under the 3yr 36K mile warranty. I'll find out the sale date tomorrow when I bring it in to have the dealer look at it. Wish me luck. Any tips for dealing with a reluctant service department? I'm preparing for the worst...

Question Auto Transmission Noise

I just recently bought a 1997 F150 w/4.6 and auto transmission. Love the truck, but of course the day after my purchase, I start hearing noises that I didn't before. I hear a slight whine at idle that I'm assuming is the fuel pump whine I've read about, but what I'm worried about is another whine type noise upon acceleration in first gear that increases in intensity with RPM. It seems to go away or at least get significantly more quiet once it shifts into second. Anyone else have anything similar? Any thoughts or comments would be appreciated...
