i'll say one thing....maybe your problem is a direct result of not maintaining your tranny...have you thought of that??

btw, don't you all find it interesting that the local 4r70w tranny experts haven't chimed in on this discussion... and i know exactly why they haven't...

RWL6935,

I'd say you should document the scratches and use those against the ford rep as well as the 23 days in the shop. I am all for your truck being replaced by ford, i just know that it's very hard to get ford to work with you on anything. Look at the bright side if ford drags their feet long enough you wont have a truck payment after the pay you 2X what you paid!

HMUSTANG,

I had trouble with my 4R70W at 22349 miles and ford rebuilt the main control and I have done the required maintience on it since then and i'm about to perform the trans service againas i now have 75K miles on it. I have not towed however I have hauled 1 yard of top soil twice and 48 12" wide retaining wall stones twice, all after the ford rebuild of the main control and my trans is fine. Perform the maintence and i'd bet that the trans would be alright. this is as long as the fluid is not burnt or full of metal.

Speedy46,

I really don't think I can lose on this one, just want to get it over with soon as possible though. With so many other things complicating life, this is one extra thing I don't need rigth now. Isn't that why we buy new trucks, so we don't have to fix 'em?

I know what you mean, the only reason i haven't bought a new one recently is that i'm waiting for the redesign in a year or two. I figure when the redesign comes out my truck will be all paid off and i can use it for a down payment.

anyways, hope your meeting with ford goes well. let us know what hey say.

im just shy of 91000. my problem didnt start either until i started towing my tractor thats when its realy noticable. i have to change my fluid to this weekend so hopfuly that helps. i didnt know these trans are so sensitive. i have a 92 f150 with 245000 miles on it and never changed the fluid in it since the day i bought it and it still shifts like its brand new.

245,000 on the original fluid man did you ever push your luck in your old truck. I guess the newer trannys aren't built as tough as the older ones were. Seeing you have the same kind of problems I have but with about 30,000 more out of your fluid.

yeah i hauled stuff on the bumper that normal people wouldnt haul on a reace hitch. like a ford 2000 back hoe with a 18' trailor. the truck still runs i gave it to my dad a year ago. still haulen to tractors, dirt what ever. ive told people that the new ford trucks cant hold up to much like the 83 to 96 styles.

Used to have an '86 F150 awhile back, sold it with 95k miles on it I ran into the guy who bought it years later...still going strong with almost 300k on it. You just can't kill that 300 straight 6 banger.

I have always towed with my truck and this is one of the things that has bothered me about this transmission. When you put it under load, it will down shift and then kind of hang there. When the rpm and load seems to have caught up then it continues to hang in the lower gear. I have to take my foot almost off the gas to get it to shift.
The Superchip did help with this. I must say it never happens except when I tow. I guess its possible for the on board computer to LEARN and continue for a while after you stop towing.

As a note, this transmission is forgiving but to tow with old fluid is asking for trouble. Change out the fluid with some good synthetic fluid and hope your transmission forgives you...

rwl6935,
I hope they work it out for you. There are a lot of good f150's out there. I know kuz I have one.

When our trucks are new and under warrentee then we deserve to have the best. If we get a lemon then it should be replaced with a quality machine.
Thats what we are paying for.
Good luck...

BTW thanks for the complement.

THIS IS TRUE, THE ON BOARD COMPUTER DOES HAVE A MEMORY EFFECT. MY '98 F150 S/C XLT - WOULD TAKE A DAY OR TWO TO RETURN TO NORMAL SHIFT PATTERN AFTER TOWING MY BOAT ON WEEKENDS.

MICHEAL
:o
I GUESS ITS POSSIBLE FOR THE ON BOARD COMPUTER TO LEARN AND CONTINUE FOR A WHILE AFTER YOU STOP TOWING.

It has been more than a week and mine is still acts up a little every once in a while it will act up but the first couple days after towing it would act up almost every hard take off.
