Question 4.10 gears and warranty

Will installing 4.10 gears void the transmission warranty or void warranty period? Does anyone know?

Cool

HI!... VELOCI, I had 4.10 gears installed at the dealer that I bought my truck from. They told me that because I was getting them to do the installation that the gear change would not affect my warranty and that they would also warranty their work. All the other local shops were too expensive anyway so thats why I got the dealer to do it in the first place.

The Lightnings come with 4.10 gears from the factory so the fact that you have the gear is not reason to void the warranty. I agree with Neal though, you probably should have the dealer do the install if you want the diffrential under the factory warranty.

NEAL, LARRY S,

Thank youfor the reply. now, that i have decided to do the intall at the dealer i have a question for either of you guys, how much did you pay for parts and labor? and also did your mpg decrease?. by the way i have got two quotes for the job and i have got the following: first dealer quoted $1,200 for the job and the second one $660 why such a big difference? again thanks for any info you can provide.

Angry

I think some dealers "highball" you because they don't want to do the mod.

HI!... VELOCI, my dealer charged me $415.00(can) to install my gears. I supplied all the material except the crush collar which was only $10.00(can). I supplied the: PRESCISION GEAR 4.10 ring and pinion ($535.00can), 4 1liter bottles of REDLINE synthetic rearend racing oil ($62.00CAN), a tube of PERMATEX high heat silocone ($6.00can), and a new pinion nut ($8.00CAN). The crush collar was included in the dealers price ($10.00can) So the total job cost me about $1026.00(can). Remmember that these prices are in CANADIAN money and that to be switched into U.S it would probably be around $600.00(u.s) - $700.00(U.S). My dealers rate is $70.00(can) an hour and it took them roughly 4 hours to do the job and another hour to recalibrate the speedometer + 0.15% sales tax on top of that. I would definatly do it this way instead of letting the dealer supply the parts, it would be much cheaper for you. I would go with the cheaper of the two dealers.

Thumbs up

sounds like the $1200 bid was for 4x4 and not 2wd. My swap was $1600 but mine was 4x4 and I added a limmited slip differentials. I had one quote of $2900 for the job.
