Hey guys or gals i have a clunking noise when i go from park to reverse! also sometimes when i
let off the gas or accelerate. i was under
my truck trying to find were it is coming
from i checked the u-joints they seemed to
be in good shape. but on the driveline going to the rearend
were the slip yoke goes into the rear of the
transfer case (4WD trucks only) i can move
mine up and down it is pretty sloppy! is there any way anyone could slide under your
4WD 97 up F-150 and see if yours is doing this i would appreciate it if you would let me know? for i make a costly mistake of
replacing it? or if anyone had the clunking noise and got it fixed? what did you do? or have done to get it fixed? THANKS!!!!!!

There is/was a TSB on the slip yokes. My dealer replaced mine when I complained about the clunking. Of course, it was still under warranty then.

My truck had the same problem except it is a 5-speed. It would make a honk type of noise every time I would start from a stop. Dealership lubed it once. That solved it for about 3 days then went back and they replaced it.

My truck did the same thing. I had the yoke replaced under warranty just last week. Better than new, now.
