Question Noise after a full stop

I own a 99 F150 xc auto 4x4 5.4. Sometimes after a full stop, when I accelerate I hear a noise, almost like if the truck was not in gear or engaged. The noise seems to be coming from under the cab. When I have some load in the truck, this never happens. This is my first truck, so I don't know if this is normal for trucks. Can anyone help?

Just a hunch, your U-Joints may be going out. Who knows who drove your truck prior to delivery. They could have taken it out for a "hell run" just for fun...maybe I don't fully understand the noise...describe it for us all....clunk...rattle...squeak...etc...
I'm sure someone here can help you.

The sound is a very soft clunk.

Tell ya what,

I have had this before and I had it today and paid closer attention this time.

20 MPH to hard stop at light, light turns green give it gas. WHAM it feels like the truck bed shifted 2 inches or my liner or the tranny...?

I've had the same thing letting off gas and going up hill re-applying the gas and wham.

Just waiting for it to break so I can take the pieces into the dealer so they can't say,

ITS NORMAL OPERATION SIR.

Good luck,
Mark

This sounds exactly like a problem I had with my wife's GMC Yukon when it was new. Step on the gas after stopping and WHAM. Felt like a lot of slack in the drivetrain. After the first dealer told me it was "normal", a second dealer told me a TSB had been issued and they packed some sort of special grease around the driveshaft yoke in the transmission. Sounds like a temporary fix, but it has lasted since 1996 without the problem. The moral of the story is find another dealer if they are blowing you off.

Thanks for the input,

I hate dealerships though!

I travel for a living and have been screwed over coast to coast. By the time I find out what went wrong at the last dealership, I am in another state. Take "that" problem to a new dealership and catch the look on there faces.

I get ulcers just thinking about it.

I'm probably not the norm here but now I just wait 'till it breaks. It's not good preventive maint. but it's about the only thing "I've found" that works to get things done quickly and correctly.

Good luck gents,
Mark
