Pat,

Your trans is equipped with synthetic fluid from the factory (Mercon IV) as marked on the dipstick. Read your owner's manual.....

dunbarton, thank you for your response, however my transmission has just plain old mercon in it.mercon V is synthetic not mercon, parts guy said that non synthetic is also known as mercon III(3).in trying to get to a mechanic(technician),i was told that to put synthetic in, every drop of non-synthetic must be drained.another service rep said, what you have is good enough!this is kinda like the x-files,the truth lies somewhere out there! pat

Pat - my Owner's Manual states that my transmission is filled with Synthetic Fluid.
I have a 250 Super Duty. Maybe the Light Duty trucks don't come with Synthetic.

my 99 F150xlt ,5.4,3.55LS,tow pkg, came from the factory with synthetic Mercon V in the trans and synthetic oil in the differential.
Dipstick on trans is marked Mercon V and
owners manual specifies synthetic in both trans and diff.

I guess they all have synthetic fluids.
Now that I've changed my oil to Mobil One, I've got synthetic everywhere

Pat,

That's OK, I pulled a couple of "boneheads" here much worse than what you did ...... and I won't tell you where they are either!
