Unknown Transmission Type Too

I just got my first "F" series Ford, last week and I'm trying to get it prepared for towing my boat. The shifting seems to be less energetic than I would have expected and so I'm thinking about putting in one of the B&M shift kits, the $39 version. The problem is that I don't know which transmission I have. The door code seems to be the letter "E" under the part of the tag that says "TR" (transmission I assume). I crawled under it and couldn't find any tags on the transmission itself though there is one on the transfer case. So how do I find out what transmission I have? As long as I'm here, has anyone had any experience towing a boat/trailer with a weight over 6,000 pounds with a similar truck?

You have the E4OD transmission, since your door sticker is "E".

Thom, get a superchip. It firms up your shifts, you'll get 25 more HP, 45 lb-ft torque more and better gas mileage.

I keep seeing references to this Superchip and I pretty much understand what it is and what it should do (suplant the current instructions from the existing on-board computer to enhance fuel injection, ignition timeing, and shift-points if I understand it correctly). What I don't know is what one of the things will cost me and where to find one. Remember I'm awfully new to this, having been a small-block Chevy sort of person for an awful lot of years (like pre- Clay/Liston fight if that means anything to anyone). I'm open to clues in this reguard.
