Question tranny prob.

Ok, the other day when I was driving down the freeway, I was going up a steep hill in overdrive. I was gradually pushing down the pedal to bring it back to 3rd gear, but when I was doing that all of a sudden I was free-wheeling, my engine reved far above 6,000rpms...it almost pegged the bottom of the dashboard. Then after about 3-5 seconds I hear a huge thump, and can feel it, and I'm back in gear. Anyone know what could do this?? Also do you think this hurt my engine any? Thanks for any help!

Sorry I can't help you with your problem

....but when other help comes along we'll both find the answer to our problem.

I've got a 1994 T-Bird Supercoupe that does the exact same thing. I just haven't had time to investigate into the problem.

If I were you, if this happens again I'd let off the gas until the tranny engages - just to make sure something doesn't break when it slams back into gear.

Good luck!
