overdrive

I have a 4x4 F-150 with 305 tireswith 3.55 antislip. I normally drive with the overdrive on. When I'm going up hill I lose alot of power, thats when I take it out of overdrive, my speed is about 60mph when I release the overdrive I hear a loud clunck in the tranmission. I took it the dealer they adjusted the cross member on the tranmission but that only helped for about a week. The clunck is back. Has anyone have/had this problem, if so what was the fix. Thanks

maybe they didn't tighten the cross member tight enough and it came loose again

If you are hitting the OD button while still under engine load, you are hearing the transmission complain about changing gears with the torque converter still locked up.

Simply let off of the throttle (cruise off) when you hit the OD button.

The fix is to change your gear ratio to 3.73, or 4.10, or drive with overdrive off all the time, or put the stock tires back on.

I disagree. I had the same symptoms with my truck about a year after buying it new. I had alot of tranny problems in the first year. the clunk when turning off OD was a tranny problem. Now that it is repaired, there is never a clunk.....converter locked or not. The converter has nothing to do with it. Tires have nothing to do with it.

Take it to the dealer. Have it fixed soon.

My 2001 Supercrew has the same problem. The clunk/jolt occurs when I accelerate from a 10 to 15mph roll. If the OD is off it doesn't occur. Started aroudn 5K miles, truck now has 20K miles. At 5K miles dealer replaced clutch paks. The dealer has had the truck for 7 days and they are indicating they will replace the transmission. ****!
