Question Tramsmission

While driving down the highway at normal highway speeds the tramsmission downshifts out of overdrive sometimes into passing gear. It seems to do this when the engine lenses a change of load on it like going up a slight grade. Is this a tranmission problem or is it a sensor or computer problem. (1994 Ford F150- V8 305)

The engine probably isn't producing enough torque in O/D, at low RPM's to make it up the hill so it down shifts to bring the RPM's and torque up.

It sounds like it's functioning perfectly normal to me as long as it doesn't do this on a flat road.

AjRagno, I have a similar problem with my auto trans in my truck. Could you possibly know what the problem is?

83_F-150_302,

I don't know specifically what's happening in your transmission. The problem, Dwise was having with his truck is just the way many transmisisons behave, depending on speed, load, grade, and rear end gear ratio.

Transmission

I guess I was not totally clear, but the truck down shifts even on flat roads.
