99 Exp-Replaced torq conv at 42k

Angry 99 Exp-Replaced torq conv at 42k

Just had to replace torgue converter on 99 ford exp 5.4 eddie. Pan had have aluminum shaving. Was wondering if any others had had same prolems. No help from dealership. Replacing with after market heavy duty unit. Out 1400$

What were the symptoms? There isn't much aluminium in a torque converter.

Didn't have any symptoms. Tranny guy didnt even notice anything until he pulled pan. He said they look like spaggehti shavings. Will give more details once i get them.

That's why I like to do my own tranny fluid changes. At least if you find spaghetti metal shavings in there you know that someone didn't put them in there... unless you suffer from dual personality complex.... he he he.

Sorry to hear about your Expy blues.

Well apparently there was a some part floating around inside the converter that was cause of the piece's of metal showing up in the pan. Apparently Ford knows of the problem. For they have a update kit for this set up.


This only came to my attention when i took it in to get the transmission switched over to mobil 1 synthetic.
