What Transmition Do I Have??

Can anyone tell me what transmition i have from this bit of information? The truck is a 2001 F150 Sport (2wd) with a 5.4L V8.
It has an automatic transmition and i see no signs of a transmition cooler. I think it is a 4r70w but i could be wrong. Does anyone know??

thanks
justin

Look in your driver door frame for the sticker. Under "TRANS" there is a letter code. Which letter do you have?

its a 4r70w, thats all that comes in standard F150's now days, its a newer version of the AODE, which is supposed to be Ford's best "performance" tranny. the other tranny for trucks is the 4r100, available in lightnings (thats what rusty's got) get under there and look at the differences between yours and rusty's. i think Ford puts the 4r100 in some 250's and 350's now, but all regular 150's will have the 4r70w......might be wrong? i'm not a tranny expert.

about the tranny cooler, look at my truck tonight, i have the factory installed heavy duty cooling system, with oil and tranny cooler, i think to get a tranny cooler you had to have this add on.

I have the 4R100 in my Expy (trans code on door sticker=TR:E) I also have the max GCWR available from the factory for this, maybe thats why they put the 4R100 in as well?

I don't understand why they won't give you a 5 speed or 6 speed on a 5.4l in a F150 ......My 2 cents

You can get a 4R100 in an F-150 depending on what emissions package you have, I think that the Screw 7700# package gets one too, but I'm not sure.

All Expys before 2002 with the 5.4 get the 4R100 and all 4WD Expys with a 5.4 still do. The Lightnings all get 4R100s.

The 4R100 is a pretty good tranny to work on, there are a lot of ways to beef it up, not as easy to find parts for as the 4R70, but the parts you do find are better and the box is better in general. A beefed up 4R70 is only gonna be as good as the stock 4R100 for the most part, there's only so much room in the case to build it up. A 4R100 starts as a big box and building it you have a lot more room to build and the parts are availible to make one darn near indestructalbe.

I've got a 4R100. I've got the tow package, so i think that's why i got it. It's a heavy duty transmission, as opposed to the 4R70W. I also have the Off Road Package.
