I am expecting to have my transgo kit today and installed over the weekend. This will be the first time that I will be working on an automatic transmission and I do not know all the lingo. I went to the web site to look up "sonnax valves" but did not see anything specifically about them.

I have an E4OD (4R100W) trans. Shoud I be considering this Sonnax valve as a part of the mod? What does it do and is it important to the upgrade?

Is it included in the transgo kit?

I would like to keep this simple and only want to open the transmission once.

Sonnex makes it and it's called a Line Mod Valve. Just replaces the one in there already.

FamilyRide and others,

I got my transgo shift kit a few days ago and opened it up, wow not much stuff in that big box.

What I don't understand is how far to go with the kit. Did you only do the first two pages or all the mods/upgrades?

How large did you drill those holes?

I cannot find a correlation between what other users with the 4R70W refer to as "hot rod, ...etc." and our kit for the E4OD which has a far more vague termonology. (I assume that you have the E4OD with the 5.4L engine).

How long did it take to install?

The video shows using a modified paper clip to remove the snap rings.......does this really work or should I get a set of snap ring plyers?

The paper clip actually works.

As for setting, I wanted crisp and ended up past the "Diesel" setting. Found out that I went past where the max flow is anyway. So, if you want really crisp shift's got with "diesel" setting. I'd have to say, I'd recommed going with "v8/v10" or the 2nd level. If you want more, drop it back out and tweak from there. I did it 3 times. (at least the tranny got flushed good with 2 gallons of new ATF each time).

I think the other deeper mods are for the older tranny. The 4R100 you pretty much do the springs, the little spacer (it's been a while) and the plate. Not much to it.

Oh, I've also got a Superchip and still on the standard program. That's why I recommend going with the 2nd setting first, if you wasn really crisp shifts.

Also, don't expect that every shift at every speed with snap your neck. But feel the shifts; nice and short.

Good luck and have fun. Oh, I posted a couple of times about what I did (like buying the $5 mortar pan from Home Depot). Just little tips and tricks.

Exclamation

Just got my Transgo kit from bulkparts.com. Only paid $57.00. Gonna install this weekend. Thanks for the tips Family Ride. I have a Superchip also. Hope it's that easy.

Not quite! WOW, kpaton, you were right, not many parts, but totally whacked out instructions! So, it looks like I got the professional kit (with no video). this could take a while. Anyone able to post the video??? I hate to rip the tranny open without understanding the instructions. Hope the tech support is worth while.

You can get teh 4R100 in a non lightning f-150 if you live in the right state, some of the emmisions packages include a 4R100, and I think the Screw with 7700# gets it too.
