Changing transmission fluid

My 1998 F-150 has 46,000 miles on it and I want to change the fluid. I bought the truck used from a Honda dealership in my area almost 2 years ago and it had arounds 30,000 miles on it then.
Is it necessary or recommended to drain the TC also or can I just drain the pan, change the filter and refill it?

Thanks

Drain the TC as well. It holds a substantial portion and has a drain plug (many vehicles don't). So, do both and a filter.

What Max said! About 40% of the ATF is in the TC.

Thanks guys. It isn't necessary to blow out all the fluid in the lines too is it? I don't think the 2 quarts in the lines would be that big of a deal.

Some people use a flushing machine. Some people manually flush or blow out the lines (several methods). What was previously mentioned is perfectly adequate and has been done for many decades.
