I have a 97 4x4 with the 5.4 in it. I was wondering what transmission was in it. Also it makes a funny sound. At a stop sign: Ease on to the gas and it sounds fine, but give it a little gas after you get rolling and it makes a clunk, almost as if it is downshifting into a lower gear. It sounds, hard to say, "normal shifting sound" but just seems weird, like the tranny is in 2nd gear from start. Any help would be great

 

Can't say for sure on your truck, but some tranny's are designed to start out in second unless you punch it. Probably helps gas milage or something. Maybe you could all your Ford dealer and they can tell you over the phone if it's normal??
