Tranny questions
Where do I find the model of tranny I have in my truck? It is a 1999 F150 SC. Also does anyone know of a place that you can get a tranny pan with a drain plug in it? And lastly, I haven't changed my tranny filter and fluid before, but I think I should be able to handle it, how many quarts will I need and what is the best thing to put in to replace the stock fluid.
Thank's,
Brent

Check your transmission code on the driver's side door jamb sticker; most likely it will say "U" denoting the 4R70W transmission. You can install a plug yourself by drilling a 1/2" hole and purchasing a universal plug. B&M makes one and most auto stores carry other brands of these. If you want a whole pan, try B&M #40287. The manual calls for 13.9qts, but sneak up on this to compensate for residual fluid in the lines, cooler, and transmission. As far as better fluids, Amsoil and Redline make top notch synthetic fluids. www.f150world.com has a walk through of this procedure in their "how to" section.
