Tranny Flushing....anyone tried this???
I am planning to flush my transmission system and there's a system I have been told works better than the standard flush system, it's called the Transtech System transmission service by Motorvac Technologies. From what I have determined while it is more expensive than the standard service, supposedly it does a more thorough cleaning job. Has anyone tried this system, and if so, would you recommend trying it? Is it worth the extra bucks?

Ummm... do it yourself. Any flush leaves the old filter in there and after a shower you wouldn't put on your dirty clothes again would you? A flush doesn't get the metal crud off the magnet in the tranny pan either.

You can always disconnect your cooler lines and blow them out with compressed air if you want to get ALL of the old stuff out.

Agree with you, however, as I understand this system, it clears all of the transmission fluid out and the filter is removed and replaced. Sounds very different from the standard process.

I know a local mechanic that has this system. I haven't had it done yet, but have considered it because my tranny has over 100k miles without servicing (see thread about changing fluid after 100k miles).
Anyway, this (Motorvac) is the only flush I have ever seen anybody use. I know the complete transmission service includes flushing via Motorvac and dropping the pan to replace the filter and clean the junk from the bottom of the pan an magnet (if one exists). It is a very thorogh process. It removes ALL of the old fluid and any particles that may exist.

JMO, but with a tranny/fluid with that many miles on it without prior service, I would not do a flush. Too much risk of getting a tiny bit of metal where it shouldn't be. Just drop the pan, change the filter, clean the magnet and drain the TC. Refill and then just drop the pan and filter every 30k miles after that. 15k if you tow.
I've got about 75,000 miles on my truck and have not had the tranny cleaned and flushed previously. I also am going to tow a 5000lb trailer more often over the next years, so thought getting the tranny done as well as cleaning out the radiator, was a good thing to do. The Motorvac system also seemed to be the most thorough, with flushing, cleaning and filter/gasket replacement, although more expensive than the standard process.
Thanks,

tranny flushing
If you start as soon as your vehicle is new there's no need to change the filter. I do this everyday and haved flushed more trannys than you can imagine. i have 98 f-150 at 10,000 miles a installed a B&M transpack shift kit and changed filter. and since flushed it at 25,000 miles and the fluid looked great beside the factory trans cooler i have a aftermarket perma cool also. You can use synthetic oil for longer life but for the price doing it every 15 to 20,000 miles if you tow , race, etc. myself i use dextron and a synthetic additive called lubeguard 2 bottles in mine. we perform a tranny flush by removing the return line at radiator or coming of aux. cooler puting a hose on it and puting in a a bucket we have marked by quarts starting the vehicle up in park or neutral depending on vehcile and we have bulk oil so ours comes out of a reel and leting the vehicle pump out the old as your puting in new the same amount. you could do this with plastic bottles but have a friend all lids open near by and a good size funnel. now if your fluid is dirty then change filter and then flush.and if you flush often enough you shouldn't have to change filter.
Thanks Daniel, I did the MotorVac flush, which included dropping the pan, sucking all the fluid out, replacing the filter and gasket. The fluid wasn't bad and the tranny looked in great shape, as I hoped it would be with only 75,000 miles on it. Also added a bottle of synthetic lube guard designed to improve performance, cool the fluid and save wear on parts,....hope it does as intended. Anyway, ready to go away and do some fishing. Thanks again,
