Is ProLine and Mercon the same thing?

I went to Pep Boys on saturday to look at prices for Mercon tranny fluid, and on the box it said 'Pro Line', but it also said Mercon below it. Are they both the same company? It also said on the box that this stuff could be used where Mercon is used.

What you saw was the Mercon equivalent marketed by Pep Boys. Pro Line is Pep Boys' house brand name. Mercon is the name used by Ford for their tranny fluid.

If Proline is the name brand, it's fine. That is as long as what's in it is Mercon ATF

MERCON is not a brand name for fluid. It is Ford's specification for what the transmission fluid needs to be. Many manufacturers produce MERCON fluids.
