Shuttering E4OD 1993 ????

I have a 1993 F150 with 4.9 and E4OD transmission.
I have a problem and would really appreicate any advice or suggestions with.

When I'm rolling along the highway and I come to an incline or just want to make a pass or even just accelerate a bit, I get a shuttering feel and sound. Kinda feels like it doesn't know if it wants to downshift or not.
It will continue to shutter until I either let up on the gas or step into it pretty good to make it shift.

Any suggestions, idea's or advice how I can repair this problem ??

I sincerely appreciate any help. And thank you for your time.
Dennis,

The two most common reasons I've seen for this are spark plug wires and old transmission fluid.

How old are your wires and fluid? IF more than a year or two old I'd change both.

my '94 did the same thing and so did my brother's '95. in both cases, it turned out to be a bad torque converter.

I had a '95 that did the same thing. A transmission flush and fill with fresh fluid took care of the problem.

Wires are 1 yr old, with 12K miles, tranny fluid is very old. Probably more then 60K on it.
I will replace the tranny filter and flush/refill fluid today and post my outcome.

Thanks much for the suggestions.
