Tranny Type

How does one find out exactly what type of tranny is in the truck. My Scab just turned 44500 miles, and I want to change out the tranny fluid - mine is an early '97 (built in Oct 96) I am wondering which would be the best fluid to put in ??

Also, would it be a good idea to change out the rear end fluid at the same time

Thanks

Look for a blue tag on either the driver's door or door post. Under "TRANS" an E means E4OD and a U means 4R70W.

You most likey will have the 4r70w as that is the most comon auto trans in the 97 and up trucks and yes go ahead and change the rear end fluid at the same time as it probable has the origanal fluid in there.

An F-250 most likely has the E4OD, all Super Duty trucks now get the 4R100. The E-4OD has 20 pan bolts if all else fails.
