Then you should think about a mechanical shift kit. (I think what you're talking about is the electronic doohickey)

B&M shift-plus

I have one of those installed in my '97 F-250-ld. I like it. It has three positions on the switch-1. Factory--(off), 2. med-solid shift, 3. very firm shift. I use position 2 when pulling my 5th wheel trailer, otherwise I leave it off. It is electronic and connects to the computer on the right firewall behind the battery.

I had the B&M shift plus installed on my Expedition. It made the solenoids make a loud noise and I was afraid it would damage the transmission. I read that the way it works is it uses a higher voltage to the solenoids which makes the transmission shift harder.. I would not recommend the B&M. The installation kit used some cheap crimp on splices into the computer wires.

Get a Mechanical Kit installed. I have the superchip and it shifts fine for me
