shifter kit running 35s

i put my lift and over sized tires on before the beginning of the year and ever since, the shifts are delayed and sloppy. I ha also researched that the factory programs the computerfor soft shifts foir comfort, but the tranny looses life. Could I go with the reprogramming kit or would this mechanical addition be well worth it running bigger tires. Does it hurt anything?

hugeScrew-

Welcome !! The Superchip will reduce shift overlap and slip. There is also a firmer program available. The shift kit can be combined for a really positive shift and be adjusted to several levels. "Does it hurt anything?"= No, both products reduce heat and clutch wear extending transmission life.

Raising line pressure with a chip (software) can cause excessive wear on the pump, MM&FF did an article about that a few issues back on their Lightning test truck. A mechanical shift kit raises line pressure by changing the pressure with different vlaves and springs in the accumulator, a better way to do it.

With the bigger tires, the speed, RPM etc. are thrown off. You'd need to get the PCM reprogrammed to accomodate for the larger tires. The easiest way to do that is with an aftermarket chip. So there's more good reason to get a Superchip!

gears

you could also go with a larger gear to compensate for the larger tires because even with the superchip (which wouldn't be a bad idea anyway but money may be an issue) you will correct your shifting however there will be a performance loss because of the smaller gear ratio because of the larger tires. I think if you bump up to 4:10s you will closer to your stock ratio and if you bump to 4:56s ( once again with 4:56s you will definately need to recalibrate speedo for shifting and speedometer purposes) you will gain a little better acceleration.
