Trans pan magnet 'goop' (pics)
Trans pan magnet 'goop' (pics)
Hey guys!
While installing a PSP/Factory Tech Lightning shift kit last night and replacing the oem pan with a 4x4 setup, I noticed a nasty collection of 'goop' on the magnet.
The truck has only 6000 miles yet the amount is a bit concerning. It has done light towing with the RPMs not dropping below 2500, done two 15 minute sessions on IRP's road course, and drag raced only three times.
Thoughts?

Don't worry too much about the goop from the magnet. I have found goop at every trans oil change. When you think about how many metal to metal parts there are in the transmission, this is nothing, especially during the break in period (first 5000 miles). Just hope you never see PIECES OF GEARS.
Thanks for the replies! No chunks of gears thank goodness.
Obviously, dropping the tranny pan isn't something I do on a regular basis. Every 10k from now on though.
Drain plugs are real nice.
Thanks again,
Bob

Bob,
that's about a normal amount on the magnet, most of it got there in the first 1,000 miles, if you pull it again in 10,000 miles, I wouldn't be surprised if it's nearly clean, the first miles are the worst, when the parts initally mate to each other.
