Getting ready to do my first trans service on 01 screw. I want to go to synthetic, anyone know if Mobil 1 has the mercon v rating yet?
Thanks

Cool

HI!... Ye, REDLINE is fully synthetic. You can get it at most local performance shops. It's expensive, but it's one of the best synthetic oils on the market in my opinion. It's also safe for our 4R70-W tranny. I called REDLINE myself to make sure.

Hi guys!

I to am ready to change the trans oil over to the Amsoil synthetic. My 2001 supercrew 4x4 (4.6L)has 18,000km on it and was wondering if I can just drain the old and add the new synthetic without replacing the filter or flushing the system?

Your help would be greatly appreciated!

2001,

You could do that but if you're already under there draining, you might as well replace the filter while you're there. Once you drop the pan (unless your 4x4 has the drain plug which negates what I'm saying) you'll likely find a lot of nasty stuff to get out of there.

Also, if you're going to the expense of going to Amsoil, wouldn't you want to put it in a clean as possible tranny?

Thanks for the reply Family Ride.....

Absolutely...new filter it will be!!

I just talked to a Ford performance shop about a Transgo shift kit. I currently have a "Superchip" in my 2001 Supercrew 4x4, and I think I will have the shift kit installed....so which means I will have the old conventional oil dropped and replaced with the Amsoil synthetic along with a new filter.
