Transmission issues
Hey there! Got an 06 f150 4.6 with an auto tranny. Having issues today. At a dead stop it was dropping out of gear and when throttle is applied it struggle to get going popping into gear several times before being able to actually go. Had no issues coming home from work last night. But while driving on the freeway today when I let off the throttle to maintain speed it felt like it downshifted. Checked fluid and it looked low so added a 1 1/2 quarts but didn’t fix the issue. When stopped at walmart there was a whine coming from the transmission. After adding the fluid the whine went awah but the slipping problem persists. Any ideas what I should do before having it go to a shop? What should I attempt to check? Rear seal is good and dry but some wetness up towards the front.
I did check fluid after getting it back home. Let it sit for about an hour then had to go get some things from down the street for our animals. When backing out and the first part of the drive it drove fine. The fluid was a little low, basically on the little curled part of the dipstick. I picked up some more fluid as the whine was non existent during this start up. So I’m hoping 🙏🏻 that it was just low fluid pressure causing the issue. The jolt after stopping at the stop signs wasn’t as bad either. But yes I do believe a rebuild might be in order as I bought this truck at 242k and it now has 245k since I bought it back in August. So it’s not like I drive it hard but I do drive it daily to work and the gym. I’m thinking the front seal may be leaking as the rear seal was bone dry with no sign of a leak.
I was planning on doing a fluid flush on Monday. I will have them change the filter as well. Hopefully that will fix this issue because it drives fine on the freeway except for feeling like it drops down in gear when I let off the throttle and just when I’m at a dead stop and need to go where I’m having major issues.
I don’t have a code light on but I will check.

mine did before it died. Oh well. All of the mechanics here in Waco evensmaller repair shops told me I need a new tranny. Spoke to my mechanic friend and he said before that, try doing a fluid change because he feels that it’s lacking the hydraulic pressure. Because I don’t get noise and it drives fine on the freeway and when cold. Only issues are when I let off the accelerator during freeway driving it goes down a gesr and at stop it drops to nuetral then jerks into gear when accelerating twice before actually going. So hopefully when I change the fluid tonight that will fix it or at least buy some time.
