I have a 2001 F-150 Supercab 5.4L 4X4 ORP with the automatic. Owners manual says it could be 4R70W of 4R100. Reading reviews in magazines of my same confirguation truck lists the tranny as a 4R100. Owners manual says if it reads Mercon V on the dipstick it is the 4R70W. Mine reads Mercon V. Hoping I have the 4R100. Is there is a tag on the tranny somewhere or some other feature that gives the 4R100 away, like a drain plug or something? Thanks in advance.

 

If the dipstick says Mercon V, it's a 4R70W.

Look at the blue sticker on the driver's door post. On the sticker it says "TRANS." Under that will be either an E or a U. E means 4R100, U means 4R70W.
