4R75E Reprogram PCM after Rebuild?

So at 235k my transmission is make a loud whining noise in my 06 f150 4x4. took it to a local transmission shop, and the tech stated that the the planetary gears were on the way out. I was also told it would be cheaper to get a used transmission or to rebuild mine. However, he also stated that once the transmission was reinstalled, the truck would need its PCM flashed by Ford. I've decided to have my transmission rebuilt. Is it necessary to have the truck flashed? Just want to make sure I do everything by the book on it.

thanks.

If anything, the battery needs to be disconnected to clear the adaptive learning tables for the trans. I don't see why it would need a reflash.

That's all that is needed.

According to a Ford tech I know unplugging the battery doesn't erase long term adaptation memory. I know from my mechanic experience that was also true involving many other brands. Ideally you should have adaptations reset and than learned, but.... it is not absolutely necessary. If your truck adapted to some really harsh shifting conditions than it may be on the edge case and actually harming a newly rebuilt transmission. If your truck is shifting good prior to the rebuild than you are likely ok. Considering you are rebuilding because of the planetary than my best guess is you do not need to relearn or reset adaptations. I just rebuilt my 4R75E because the reverse band was down to bare metal and I lost reverse. I also had to replace the rear planetary because it went metal to metal. I did NOT get my adaptations reset, but it shifts so smooth I'm not even worried about it.

It is actually a really simple rebuild. The guy from "Transmission Bench" Youtube does a extremely thorough rebuild. Definitely the best videos for learning I have ever seen. I venture to say he is even more thorough than FordTechMaluko. Yes he is possibly the most boring as well, but I'm convinced anyone could rebuild their transmission watching those videos.

I had some hard shifting issues after I rebuilt the trans in my 08 F150. Disconnecting the battery didn't do anything to reset the adaptive learning table. I had to hook up the computer and use Forscan to reset it. It shifted smoothly after that.

Do you have a link or know the type of reset you did to have the trans shift smooth again? I’ve done the KAM reset and Adaptive memory for trans reset and still shifts hard intermittently from 1-2.

I just went into the Service Procedures menu in Forscan and hit the "Clear Transmission Adaptive Tables" option. It cleared up my issues.
