Transmission Fluid type

I am going to change the transmission fluid in my 98 F150 with the 4R70W transmission. It says to use mercon 5 fluid which is fine. I just noticed a few of the you tube videos use The red bottle of valvoline max life transmission fluid. From what I read on the label its not the certified mercon v. Anyways, I am just going to play it safe and get motorcraft. I was just curious as to what people on this site prefers to use for transmission fluid changes.

Anything certified to Mercon V specs. I prefer Amsoil. Might be too pricey for your tastes.

Note that you have a torque converter drain plug. Drop the pan, drain the converter, it will take around 14 quarts.

AMSOIL is not certified to MERCON V specs. Their label says it is good for that use, but that doesn't mean it is certified to the spec.

Any fluid that really is certified to MERCON V specs will be fine. I think the best one out there is Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF.
