Transmission not going into gear

So to start off i have a 99 f150 with the 4.2 v6, it has the 4r70w trans.
the issue I'm having is it doesn't go into any gear and revs like its in neutral. the OD off light is flashing when the truck is running however im not pulling any codes from it.
when i first got the truck home it went into reverse with no issues or slippage and once parked and shut off it wouldn't go into gear. could it be the transmission went suddenly after shutting it off or could it be a pcm issue?
any help would be appreciated

Transmission is either very low on fluid or it's busted internally.

If you have a flashing OD light but are not reading any codes, you likely have an inadequate code reader.

Check the fluid level properly (see owner's manual). If the fluid level is correct, tow it in.

Update: So i got another 4r70w for the truck and got it all in. while that did get the OD light to stop flashing the truck is still facing the same issues. won't shift into any gear. it will rev the engine up accordingly but other then that it doesn't move under its own power at all. transmission fluid level is right where it needs to be. could something as simple as a fuse or relay be causing the trans to not shift?

Are you sure the cable is actually moving the shift lever on the transmission?

No, it cannot be ANYTHING electrical. Even with the electronics completely disconnected from the trans it will go into gear.

Is this a 4x4? If so, when the trans is in park does it hold or will the truck roll?

It might be the stator in the torque converter.

Even if the stator fails the torque converter will work as a fluid coupling. There will be no torque multiplication, but it will still go into gear.

The failure here is inside the transmission. You might want to put a pressure gauge in the test port and see if there is any pressure.

Where did you get your 2nd 4r70w? I had nothing but trouble buying transmissions out of junk yards. They were all busted or worn inside and I'm sure that the yard people knew it but they'd sell them to me anyway and then let me find out the hard way. And of course, there was never a cash refund, only "credit" that was worthless.

Yes, I do. Something is wrong inside your transfer case. It is either in neutral or it's busted.

sorry, i accidentally closed this window and had trouble getting back...
just to be clear, in 2wd the transmission does not seem to engage, only in low 4x4. Still the transfer case?

If I'd be a betting man... I'm going with Mark's comment, the transfer case is still busted or stuck in neutral.
