4wd not engaging

Ok, so I know this has probably been answered 1,000 times. Today is my first day on site, 😁.
My 06 won’t engage the 4wd. When I turn the selector switch the light will flash one time but never stay on. For a few days, you could hear the motor thump like it wanted to engage, so I tried the mallet trick. It worked one time. Now I’m back to the same issue. I’ve already set in my mind I need to replace the transfer case motor, but before I do, I figured I’d ask if I should be looking in another direction. Thanks!

Bump

Since it worked with the mallet once, sounds to me like the thing's "stuck". Can it be rebuilt?

I have no clue. I know that they sell remanufactured ones, So I would assume it’s possible.

YES they can be rebuilt just not by the "end user" as WE can't get the individual parts

Ok.. I’ve changed the transfer case motor, the vacuum solenoid and fluid change.. still no 4wd. I can hear it click but that’s it... the light will flash one time. Then nothin.. any ideas?

My 4wd does in fact work. The light just doesn’t come on for 4-High, it will come in for 4-low, After more research I’ve decided to change out the vacuum reservoir, check valves and the lines themselves. From what I’ve read on other posts here the light will do that if there’s not a full vacuum. Which means there’s a leak or it’s full of water.. stand by while I order parts. 😁

Not happy...

flushed T-case, changed IWE Solenoid, changed vacuum reservoir, changed all the vacuum lines to the actuators. When I crank the truck I get a test light, so I know the 4-hi light works. Put it in 4-hi and no light... put it in 4-low and I get a light. I have 4wd, I just don’t think it’s fully engaging??? Just ordered new actuators.. hoping that fixes the issue.

Time for y’all to laugh.... 😂😂 I went to reading some other threads here, so I went and check the one thing I didn’t check.. fuse #11 was blown. Now my light works as it’s supposed to.. I’m still going to change the actuators, since I’ve already ordered them. So if you have issues with the 4-hi light not working proper... check the fuse. 😂

Congratulations! Now lets hope the fuse doesn't blow again.

Long as I don’t turn the ac on I should be fine.. #11 runs the compressor and 4wd function. My compressor is bad on the AC.

Unplug the compressor. It will try to run if you use the defroster.
