03 5.4l expedition

I have a 03 Ford Expedition with just over 100k miles

so the transmission problem started when I had a problem with the ignition solenoid, I was exiting the highway and came up to the stop sign and the ignition solenoid burned out hence shutting down the engine but it also felt as if it locked up something in the tranny at the same time, I was able to switch the solenoid out with a different one from the bank of three and then the engine started right back up bit then as I drove it it shifted fine from what felt like 1st to 2nd but then as it went to shift from 2nd to third it felt as if it was locking in both gears at the same time hence it felt as if I was slamming on the brakes.....then if I put it in neutral and let the rpms drop and then drop it back in drive it would shift up ok and would cruise on the highway just fine with out it over revving, so I took it into my local auto service shop and had them check it out and they diagnosed it and said that it was missing 4th and overdrive all together and needed a rebuild, after I got it back from that shop it was not doing anything like it was when I took it too them.....now it just shifts fine up to second but then just hits what feels like neutral so to drive it I have to put it in second and keep it under like 30mph and then I took it to another transmission shop and they said the same that they have to take it out and rebuild it and it’s going to cost $2250 plus tax,

any my info will help, how hard is it to take the tranny out myself? I have access to a two post lift and tools and am pretty mechanical, how much should it cost to have the tranny rebuilt if I take it out and take it to a shop?

I would just go to Jasper and buy a rebuilt tranny and converter combo. You get a nice warranty and piece of mind for a lots less than $2250.

For many reasons based on a LOT of experience due to proximity, I am not a fan of the suggested rebuilder. Other than the warranty Great warranty, and that's good because you will use it.
